Overview

The SoMat Strain SMART Module (SMSTRB4-xxx) is a part of a family of signal conditioners for the eDAQ and eDAQ-lite HLS layers. The Strain SMART Module provides excellent strain gage signal conditioning with support for 1/4-, 1/2- and full-bridges.

As an external module, the Strain SMART Module is literally like taking a piece of the eDAQ hardware and placing it next to the application. A digital line communicates with the eDAQ for setup and calibration, and the module conditions/amplifies the output to a high level signal. Sending a high level signal has several advantages; including the elimination of lead wire resistance and protecting the signal integrity to noise. These benefits are numerous across many applications; from Bridge Monitoring with 50+ meter leads over a structure, to Heavy Equipment with long leads in noisy environments.

Additionally, the Strain SMART Module can also be programmed to store transducer calibration information. A hardware query by the eDAQ automatically identifies the module, and loads the channel in TCE (Test Control Environment Software). When dedicated to a transducer, it makes any transducer “SMART” and capable of plug and play.
